Raffle Item: “Lobo” miniature kite by Dave Butler

The skin is of an incredibly light washi paper I bought in Tokyo. The spars are 100 year old bamboo I got from a Japanese friend. I split and shaped them myself. The inks are a Japanese art pens; they are dyes which are applied with a brush-like tip. The tail is made from grizzly saddle feathers (the ones women are paying from $5-$15 dollars apiece to put in their hair). The glue is archival quality, and acid free.

Full kite size is 8 inches high by 4 inches wide.

2013 AKA Raffle - Dave Butler mini kite

This design was motivated by my love of wilderness and wildlife and was inspired by the idea of a wolf at night with shining eyes. It is an original design, and the first of one of this design I’ve ever made. I attempted to make the shape unique (though there may well be another similar somewhere). It is inspired by the shape of the face, and the old scalloped kites from the late 19t century from Europe. It took me a couple months to come up with a Celtic design for a wolf I was happy with, and I am hoping others like it as well.
